The era of Henry Cavill is over, there’s a new Superman in town. The American actor already seen in Hollywood , Pearl and The Politician , David Corenswet, will be the new Superman in the DC Universe films.
The search for the new Superman is finally over. After the news that Henry Cavill would no longer be the Man of Steel, the question on everyone’s minds from the very beginning was who would be chosen to play the role of Superman . Months later, we have the answer to this question…
“The changing of the guard is a natural thing. I respect that,” Cavill wrote in an Instagram post the day after the news broke. “James and Peter — ed. the heads of DC Films — have a universe to build. I wish them and everyone involved in the new DC Universe the best of luck.”
James Gunn , the new head of DC Films, said in an interview with Variety in April that DC Films had » some really cool stuff» coming up that he was «very excited about . «
“The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has, ” Gunn continued. “He has to be someone who has the kindness and compassion that Superman has and be someone you want to give a hug to . ”
David Corenswet , 29 , will officially make his big screen debut as Superman in the film Superman: Legacy . David Corenswet was born on July 8, 1993, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He rose to fame for his role in the Netflix series Hollywood in 2020. He studied acting at the Juilliard School in New York and appeared in several theater productions before entering the world of film and television. Corenswet has continued to find success with other notable roles, such as in the series The Politician and Pearl . Also joining the DC family is Rachel Brosnahan (best known for her role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel ), who will play the new Lois Lane .
It will be a while before we see these two in Superman: Legacy , as filming seems to be a long way off and the release date is estimated to be no earlier than 2025. That said, while Henry Cavill will always have a place in our hearts, fans seem to be very happy with Corenswet .
