Glass Skin That’s Healthy and Glowing? Neutrogena’s Got You

by L`OFFICIEL

L’Officiel sits down with Neutrogena’s R&D to find out how to get that glow.

Glass skin has been the aspiration for many skincare enthusiasts over the years and it’s proven to be not just another skin “trend.” The question though goes beyond how do we achieve it but how do we actually keep it? L’Officiel sits down with Vanessa Chong, Johnson & Johnson Research and Development Scientist for Skin Health, in an exclusive interview.

How is glass skin achieved and more importantly how do we sustain it?

Glass skin (plump, glowing skin) can be achieved by keeping skin hydrated at all times. The regular use of a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid can help achieve healthy, hydrated skin.

How do the ingredients work together to create radiant healthy skin?

They triple-charged formula of Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel includes hyaluronic acid, amino acids, and electrolytes. Hyaluronic acid helps to retain water to the skin for long-lasting hydration. Amino acids help to support and strengthen the skin barrier. Electrolytes boost ingredient absorption. Together, these ingredients help fight the first signs of premature skin aging by hydrating and replenishing dehydrated skin, reducing the look of dry lines, improving skin radiance, energizing tired-looking skin, and smoothing uneven skin texture.

I’ve heard of electrolytes in skincare but does it work similarly/differently to when one ingests it?

In terms of hydration, electrolytes in drinks and in skincare work under the same concept. Electrolytes in our body are responsible for directing water and nutrients to the areas of the body where it’s needed most and maintaining optimal fluid balance inside the cells, this is extremely essential for a properly hydrated body. In skincare, electrolytes do the same thing for your skin as they do for the rest of your body: They help your skin retain moisture and support the transfer of nutrients to your skin, it also helps with ingredient penetration for intense hydration. Therefore, electrolytes in this formula are ideal for dry, dull skin that needs an extra shot of moisture.

Would you recommend this to be used as simple as possible (just with cleanser/toner/SPF) or is it okay to integrate into any existing routine?

Moisturizers like Hydro Boost Water Gel are typically the final step in a complete skincare regimen. Hydro Boost Water Gel can be integrated into any skin care routine.

Glass skin is also achieved through regular non-physical exfoliation that encourages cell turnover—does this do that alone or are there any Neutrogena products that you recommend using with it?

To achieve best results, Hydro Boost Water Gel can be used as the final step in a complete skincare regimen. Apart from Water Gel (lightweight day time moisturizer), the full Hydro Boost range of products includes a Water Gel Cleanser, Clear Lotion (Toner), Hyaluronic Acid Serum, and Night Cream. As always, use sunscreen in the daytime to protect your skin from harmful rays!
